New parents whose new babies require neonatal care will have the right to paid leave from day one of their employment. This is a welcome measure for the new parents whose new born babies are in need of such intensive care, in that it removes the concerns about job security and allows them to spend time with their baby at this crucial time.
Neonatal Care Leave will apply to parents whose babies are admitted into neonatal in the first 28 days of life and have to remain in hospital for seven complete days or longer. Under the new rights eligible parents will have the right to take 12 weeks with pay in addition to any other leave that they have accrued. The new Act applies to both maternity and paternity leave
